2020 GMC Sierra HD
Well.. here it is. The 2020 GMC Sierra HD has been released and we are a huge fan. The GMC appears to have much better looks than the highly controversial 2020 Silverado. Although, we are still unsure about GM’s mindset when it comes to the mirrors. They do extend with the press of a in-cab button, but they have a terrible style and do not match the truck at all. This all new Sierra HD is not only a workhorse, it is a technological wonder.
The standard tech basics that come with the upper trim levels are Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control, Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Trailer Sway Control. One of the more advanced items is the Digital Variable Steering Assist. This technology allows the power steering to adjust depending on the driving scenario. Our favorite new gadget on the truck has to be the Prograde Trailering System. It is comprised of several cameras around the truck and some advanced software. This system offers up to fifteen different views including the transparent trailer seen below.
The 2020 GMC also has its own app that is focused on towing. Part of the ProGrade Trailering System is integrating what’s hanging off the back of your pickup with the infotainment system and the myGMC mobile app. For example, with certain trailers you can control the air conditioning, water heater, and check water and holding tank levels. It also includes other features such as Trailer Light Test, Trailer Electrical Diagnostics, Trailer Tire Pressure, Trailer Maintenance Reminders and even a Departure Checklist. Any of these are also available remotely through the myGMC App. The video below does a great job of displaying this technology.
The 6.6L Duramax will hang around from the previous generation and is said to be the same L5P setup. This engine will pack 910 Lb-FT of torque. GMC has not yet released a horsepower rating, but we expect it to be slightly higher than the previous year thanks to tuning updates. The 1-Ton version of the truck is also said to handle more than 30,000 pounds. Which means it should have no problem getting your 5th wheel trailer to the top of the hill.
Just like the 2019 GMC 1500, the HD models will receive the MultiPro tailgate that has six different positions. GMC will include the MultiPro tailgate standard on the 2020 Sierra Heavy Duty SLT, AT4, and Denali trims. It’ll be an option on all of the lower end trims. The 2020 GMC Sierra HD will go on sale in the third or fourth quarter of this year and will be built in Flint Michigan. Pricing will be released closer to release.
